Men’s Lacrosse Edged by Manhattanville on Tuesday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team erased a first-half deficit but was edged, 8-7, by Manhattanville College in a non-conference contest at Danzi Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 1-1 on the year as the Valiants remain perfect and improve to 3-0.

Junior Chris Nielsen's four points (two goals, two assists) matched a game-high and paced the SJC offense. The midfielder took five shots and was credited with two ground balls.

Freshmen Matt Trautman, Tim McCann and Anthony Passarella and sophomore Mike McCarthy all tallied the first goals of their collegiate careers, while junior Kyle Levantino picked up an assist for his first point of the year.

Junior midfielder Declan Canevari won 13 of 19 faceoffs and sophomore keeper Adam Sivon (0-1) played the first half, made six saves and took the loss.

Manhattanville's Nick Delia and Gianni Ciffone tallied three goals apiece.

After trailing 6-2 at the half, SJC reversed its fortunes in the third quarter, scoring three goals to bring the game back to within one goal (6-5).

McCann tied the game up at six 5:59 into the fourth before Passarella put the hosts up 7-6 with 6:58 to play in regulation, but a pair of late tallies lifted the guests to an 8-7 win.

Despite being outshot 30-25, St. Joseph's scooped up more ground balls (38-29) and won 13 of 19 faceoffs.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, March 9 when they visit Marywood University for a non-conference contest at 4:00 pm.
