Men’s Lacrosse Tops Oneonta on Thursday

Oneonta, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team picked up a 16-10 road victory over SUNY Oneonta in its fourth game of the 2019 season on Thursday evening.

The win sees the Golden Eagles improve to 3-1 overall on the year as the Red Dragons slip to 2-4.

The SJC offense was powered by freshman Anthony Passarella, who posted game-high totals for goals (5), assists (3) and points (8). Fellow freshman Tim McCann scored four goals and added a helper for five points.

Sophomore Mike McCarthy contributed two goals and two assists and junior Chris Nielsen tallied twice.

Senior Christian Prate scooped up nine ground balls, and junior Declan Canevari won 19 of 24 faceoffs and was credited with a game-high 12 ground balls.

Sophomore Adam Sivon (2-1) made his fourth-straight start, made five saves in the first half and was credited with the victory. Freshman Andrew Brust played the second half and made 12 saves.

SJC took a 3-2 lead in the first quarter and later played to a 1-1 tie in the second quarter to take a 4-3 advantage into halftime.

Canevari's goal eight seconds into the third kicked off a wild period that saw a combined 14 goals scored. The guests emerged as 12-8 leaders and went on to take the contest by a 16-10 score line.

St. Joseph's was outshot 49-36 in the match but was dominant on faceoffs, where it won 21 of 29 draws. SJC also scooped up 46 ground balls to the Red Dragons' 32 but turned over the ball on 23 occasions.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, March 20 when they host SUNY Oswego for a non-conference contest at Danzi Stadium at 5:30 pm.
