Kean Hands Men’s Lacrosse Non-Conference Loss

Patchogue, NY| Despite tying the game at four late in the third quarter, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team was defeated, 9-4, by Kean University in a non-conference contest at Danzi Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 3-4 overall on the year as the Cougars improve to 4-2.

Freshman Anthony Passarella and junior Kyle Levantino paced the SJC offense with a goal and an assist apiece. Juniors Chris Nielsen and Declan Canevari also tallied in the loss.

Sophomore Jesse McKeever scooped up a game-high 10 ground balls and sophomore Vincent Raccuglia was credited with seven ground balls and a game-best four caused turnovers.

Freshman Andrew Brust made 18 saves on 26 shots in his second loss of the season (0-2).

Kean's Mike Snellen scored three times and added two helpers for a game-high five points.

Down 4-2 in the closing seconds of the second half, Passarella found Levantino on the left side where the midfielder beat the Kean keeper with less than one second on the clock. The goal ensured SJC's deficit at the break was just one goal (4-3).

Passarella would go on to tie the game at four with 59 seconds left in the third quarter but a five-goal fourth for the guests (9-4) put the game out of reach of the Golden Eagles.

Kean dominated SJC in the shot category (47-27) but the hosts held a 44-40 ground-ball advantage. Both teams won eight faceoffs apiece. SJC's Tom Ekstrom won five of eight draws.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, March 30 when they host Salve Regina for a non-conference contest at Danzi Stadium at 12:00 pm.
