Men’s Lacrosse Edged by Salve Regina at Home

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team was defeated, 15-11, by Salve Regina in a non-conference contest at Danzi Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 3-5 overall on the year as the Seahawks improve to 4-2.

Freshman Anthony Passarella tallied a team-best five goals on seven shots for the hosts. Grad student Max Chin went for two goals and three assists, and junior Chris Nielsen scored twice and added two helpers.

Freshman Joe Wickel caused three turnovers and scooped up four ground balls, and senior Christian Prate scooped up a a team-best five ground balls.

Junior Declan Canevari won even of 10 faceoffs.

Passarella opened the scoring 3:21 into regulation but a paid of Salve tallies later in the quarter ensured the guests started the second quarter up 2-1.

After playing to a 5-5 tie at the break, SJC took two leads in the third quarter (6-5 and 7-6) but fell behind in a wild fourth quarter before succumbing to a 15-11 defeat.

SJC keeper Andrew Brust (0-3) made 14 saves on 29 shots. Salve goalie Mike Sullivan was credited with 10 saves.

In total, Salve outshot SJC 48-26 and scooped up 19 more ground balls (52-33). The teams each won 15 faceoffs apiece.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, April 2 when they visit Farmingdale State for a Skyline Conference showdown at 6:00 pm.
