Men’s Lacrosse Eliminated in Skyline Semis

Throggs Neck, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team was defeated, 17-6, by SUNY Maritime in the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference Championship on Wednesday evening.

The fourth-seeded Golden Eagles wrap their 2019 season with a 6-9 overall record as the top-seeded Privateers improve to 13-3.

Freshmen Tim McCann and Anthony Passarella led SJC in its first-ever playoff game with two points apiece. McCann scored twice while Passarella went for a goal and an assist.

Senior Christian Prate scooped up a game-high seven ground balls and sophomore Vincent Raccuglia caused a team-best four turnovers.

Freshman Andrew Brust (4-7) started in goal for the Golden Eagles and made 12 saves on 28 shots.

Down 5-3 at halftime, SJC opened the third quarter with a man-up goal off the stick of McCann and cut the deficit to one goal (5-4).

St. Joseph's fended off the Privateers for the next six minutes but later allowed 12-straight goals over 15 minutes and fell behind 17-4 with 8:24 to play in regulation. Passarella and Prate tallied twice late but in the end it was a 17-6 defeat for the guests.

Maritime held slim advantages in total shots (37-34) and faceoffs (14-13). The Golden Eagles were 2-for-6 on man-up opportunities.
