Gothic Knights Slay Eagles with Second Half Tallies

Patchogue, N.Y.—The St. Joseph's Golden Eagles (5-8) fell to the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights (10-4) by a 3-1 score on Monday night.  Despite SJC's early lead, the Knights found their stride in the second half, scoring all three of their goals in the last 45 minutes of the game.

After 28 minutes of aggressive play, SJC senior John Dettori(Bay Shore, N.Y./ Bay Shore) ripped a shot from 35 yards out off of an assist from Brendan O'Brian (Mount Sinai, N.Y./ Mount Sinai).  The Golden Eagles maintained their lead for the rest of the first half and continued to challenge NJCU offensively with five more shots.

Half time was a turning point for the Gothic Knights however and within three minutes into the second half Eduardo Tejado, assisted by Aboubacar Diawara, scored NJCU's first goal of the game off of a through ball into the box.

Although SJC's consistent possessions led to nine more shots, none found the back of the net; the Gothic Knights' momentum suddenly became too powerful for the Golden Eagles to counter.  NJCU would score two more goals in the 73rd and 81st minute of the match.

SJC goalie Chris Muhs (West Babylon, N.Y./ West Babylon) finished with 11 saves out of 14 shots on goal.

The Golden Eagles will return to Danzi Stadium on Thursday to defend their home field in an 8 p.m. Skyline Conference match against Yeshiva.
