Dettori & Alves Win Skyline Player & Rookie of the Year Honors, Five Eagles Make All-Skyline Team

New York, N.Y. – For the second consecutive year, John Dettori of St. Joseph's-L.I. has been named the Skyline Men's Soccer Player of the Year in voting conducted among the Conference's ten head coaches.

The Skyline coaches also selected Fabio Alves of St. Joseph's-L.I. as the 2012 Rookie of the Year, Farmingdale State's Brian Anderson as the league's Defensive Player of the Year and Kevin Longacre of Mount Saint Mary as Coach of the Year. In addition, Yeshiva received the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Dettori ranks fourth nationally in both goals (21) and points (50) and leads the Skyline with six game-winning tallies as St. Joseph's-L.I. enters its NCAA first round contest at York (PA) on Nov. 10. The senior forward led the Golden Eagles to their first conference title since 2009 as he scored four goals in wins over NYU-Poly and Mount Saint Mary en route to being named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2012 Championship. Dettori was named the Skyline Player of the Week on five different occasions this season.

Anderson anchored a Farmingdale State defense that registered ten shutouts in 2012 while compiling a 6-3 record in league play. The senior defender from Massapequa, NY, started all 19 contests and amassed four goals and one assist with 16 shots.

A two-time Rookie of the Week selection, Alves ranks second on SJC in both goals (12) and assists (eight), stands third in the Skyline in points (32) and leads the league with 89 shots. The junior forward and first-year collegiate performer accounted for the Golden Eagles' game-winning goals in victories over Maritime (Sept. 22) and NYU-Poly (Oct. 2).

Joining Alves and Anderson on the All-Conference first team are teammates Kevin Dommreis, Scott Jarosz and Gustavo Trinidad of Sage; Michael Carroll and Brendan O'Brien of St. Joseph's-L.I.; Farmingdale State's Renato Ipince and Angelo Viteritti; and teammates Matt Pagano and Alex Tolman of Mount Saint Mary.
