Eagles Draw Even With Centenary Cyclones

Patchogue, N.Y. — The Golden Eagles (0-6-1) took the field against the Centenary Cyclones (2-1-2) on Saturday aggressive and raring to go, scoring two goals within the first eleven minutes of the game.  The visiting team bounced back from the early blows however as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

St. Joseph's first goal, scored at 7:41 by Daniel Soranno (Rocky Point, N.Y./ Rocky Point) and assisted by Andrew Stasiewicz (Mount Sinai, N.Y./ Mount Sinai), gave the fans something to cheer for and sparked the Eagles' enthusiasm.  Soranno's score was followed almost immediately by Fabio Alves' (Holbrook, N.Y./ Sachem East) unassisted goal at 10:47, which seemingly established a solid Golden Eagle lead.

Surprisingly, SJC's early advances only fueled Centenary, who scored their first goal of the game only minutes later, effectively taking a step towards evening the scoreboard.

For the remainder of the first half and for much of the second half the game was essentially uneventful, as neither of the well-matched teams could find the back of the net.  Seventy-nine minutes into the match however, the Cyclones scored the goal that not only tied the game but also sent it into two rounds of overtime.

Ultimately, while the Eagles came out strong, the Centenary's composure proved that the two teams were indeed equally matched, as twenty extra minutes of play couldn't result in a victor. St. Joseph's goalie, Niko Petratos (North Babylon, N.Y./ North Babylon) made ten saves; the Eagles had eleven shots on goal.

The Golden Eagles will travel to the Merchant Marine Academy for a 6 p.m. match on Tuesday.  Their first Skyline Conference game will be at home, this Saturday, against Sage at 1 p.m.
