Men's Soccer Pounces all Over Old Westbury Panthers for Big Skyline Win

Patchogue, N.Y. — The Golden Eagles (4-12-3, 3-4-1 SKY) may have went into their match against the Old Westbury Panthers (9-8-2, 4-4-1 SKY) on Saturday as underdogs but they walked off the field as victors courtesy of an offensive explosion leading to a 9-2 thrashing.  Home team fans — encouraged by both the team's exceptional performance and the energetic Golden Eagle mascot — were roaring with excitement as the match was essential to the Eagle's ongoing efforts to snatch a Skyline Conference playoff spot.

The game also served as the team's senior day in which the much valued seniors Terrence Dzus (Central Islip, N.Y./ Islip), Emil Sadowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y./ Lindenhurst), Chris DeSimone (Medford, N.Y./ Patchogue-Medford), Bradly Frabizio (East Patchogue, N.Y./ Mercy), Kevin Deutsch (Medford, N.Y./ Patchogue-Medford) and George Ekstrom (Hauppauge, N.Y./ Hauppauge),were honored.

Freshman Cody Kull (Manorville, N.Y./ Eastport-South Manor) lit the match that set his team on fire, scoring two goals within the first eight minutes of the game. Kull's first tally was assisted by teammate Andrew Stasiewicz (Mount Sinai, N.Y./ Mount Sinai) and his second was headed in off of a corner kick from Chris Hall (Mastic, N.Y./ William Floyd).

At 9:47 Stasiewicz logged a score of his own after an assist from Dzus.  Hall, motivated by the rhythm of the match, went on a run about twenty minutes into the game, heading the ball into the net off of an impeccably placed pass from Stasiewicz and then shooting and scoring from 30 yards out only minutes later, sending the ball sailing just outside of the keeper's reach.

At 32:37 Brian O'Sullivan (Manorville, N.Y/ Eastport-South Manor) found Enrique Tirado (Smithtown, N.Y./ St. Anthony's)in the box who then scored the Eagle's sixth goal of the day.  Shortly after, Hall dished out yet another assist to DeSimone who rocketed the ball into the back of the net and put the Eagles ahead 7-0 at the half.

Andrew Stasiewicz and Chris Hall connected for one last time only a minute into the second half, as Hall sent home his third goal of the night.  George Ekstrom finished off Golden Eagle scoring in a great way with an expertly placed penalty kick at 59:00.

The Panthers attempted a comeback late in the game, scoring two goals before the final buzzer, but their efforts were too little too late. St. Joseph's keeper Avery Gomez (Bay Shore, N.Y./ Bay Shore) made five saves.

The Eagles will challenge Polytechnic on the road Tuesday for their final Skyline Conference match of the season.
