M. Soccer Falls to Knights in Skyline Tournament Opener

Newburgh, N.Y. – The six-seeded St. Joseph's Golden Eagles (5-14-2, Skyline 4-4-1) fell to the three-seeded Mount St. Mary's Knights (11-4-2, Skyline 5-2-2) in the first round of the Skyline Conference Championship, 7-1.  The loss ended the Golden Eagles' season and the defense of their 2012 Skyline Championship crown.

St. Joseph's came out strong early as they fired several shots on the Knights keeper in the first ten minutes of action but it only took one shot by Mount St. Mary to make a difference. Eleven minutes into the match, Michael Ennis capitalized on a chance to put the Knights up 1-0. In a physical first half, the Eagles kept fighting for the equalizer but it was Ennis once again who notched his tenth goal of the season for the Knights in the 35th minute. The Golden Eagles went into halftime down by two goals.

The Knights carried the momentum into the second half as six minutes in, Matt Garcia put a corner kick into the box that found the foot of Chris Marchese to put them up three. It was Garcia's second assist of the night.

Two minutes later, Garcia got a goal of his own as he put in a pass from Brandon Mincher who notched his second assist of the game.  The home team scored two more goals including an own goal to take a 6-0 lead.

With twelve minutes remaining, the Eagles finally got on the board as Bradly Frabizio (East Patchogue, N.Y./Mercy) found the head of Robert Gomez (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) for the Golden Eagles lone goal on the night. Knights added a seventh goal shortly thereafter.
