M. Soccer Shuts Down Yeshiva in Skyline Opener, 4-0

Patchogue, N. Y. – St. Joseph's College (2-4, 1-0 SKY) earned their first Skyline Conference victory on Thursday night after shutting out Yeshiva University (4-1-1, 0-1-1 SKY), 4-0.

The contest started off relatively slow as both teams were unsuccessful in finding the back of the net after the first 45 minutes of play. Yeshiva came out aggressive by out-shooting the Golden Eagles 5-2 in the first half.

The Golden Eagles were quick to break open the scoreboard following halftime. The first goal of the game came in the 51st minute after sophomore Cody Kull (Manorville N.Y. / Eastport-South Manor) headed in a corner kick from  teammate Chris Hall (Mastic N.Y. / William Floyd). Ten minutes later, SJC's Chance Casey (Babylon N.Y. / Babylon) scored the second goal of the game after chipping a shot over Yeshiva's keeper off an assist from Justin Heredia (Patchogue N.Y./ Patchogue-Medford).

St. Joseph's continued the up-beat pressure on the Maccabees for the rest of the game.  The Eagles' were able to score two more goals by Robert Gomez (Bay Shore N.Y. / Bay Shore) in the 76th minute and Ryan Hempfling (Holbrook N.Y. / Sachem East) in the 83rd minute to finish off Yeshiva.

St. Joseph's goalkeeper, Avery Gomez (Bay Shore N.Y. / Bay Shore), recorded his first shutout of the season.

SJC will face-off in a non-conference home game against Baruch College this Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
