Offense Abound as SJC Blasts Sarah Lawrence in Skyline Win

Patchogue, N.Y. – During a game dampened with torrential downpours, St. Joseph's College (4-9, 2-2 SKY) men's soccer team emerged in spectacular fashion overcoming the inclement weather in their 6-0 thrashing of the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (1-8, 0-4 SKY).  Saturday's contest between the Golden Eagles and the Gyrphons marked the first-ever Skyline Conference matchup between the two clubs, as this is Sarah Lawrence's first year as a member of the league.  In the match the Golden Eagles wore custom pink uniform shirts in support of their annual Breast Cancer Awareness and Family Day.

SJC opened the game up early scoring their initial goal at the 10:58 mark when SJC's Mike Anglim (Bayport, N.Y. / Bayport-Blue Point) scored off a backheeled pass from Connor Fitzpatrick (West Babylon, N.Y. / West Babylon).  Nine minutes later, Golden Eagle Justin Heredia (Patchogue, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) would advance the ball toward the enemy's flag where he launched a cross that was headed in by Chris Hall (Mastic, N.Y. / William Floyd) for the second tally of the game. The Golden Eagles outshot Sarah Lawrence in the first half 14-0.

In the second half, the Golden Eagles kept their foot on the pedal, lighting up the scoreboard with four additional tallies.  The first goal of the second half came at 58:58 when senior Connor Fitzpatrick headed in his first career goal off an assist from St. Joseph's captain Gaetano Innamorato (West Babylon, N.Y. / West Babylon).  In the 69th minute Innamorato would find the back of the net himself when he sniped a shot from 20 yards out via a Heredia pass. Dylan Ierardi (Kings Park, N.Y. / Kings Park) scored next heading in a Korey Robinson (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown East) cross at 73:59. Oisin Keenan (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) was responsible for the final goal of the game off an Anglim assist at 86:17.

Sarah Lawrence had no answer for St. Joseph's College, who dominated in all facets of the game.  The Golden Eagles outshot the Gyrphons on the day 26-3. Also, SJC's aggressive attack led to 12 corner kicks compared to Sarah Lawrence's one.

St. Joseph's victory over Sarah Lawrence snaps the Golden Eagles four game-losing streak. In SJC's four victories this season they have outscored their opponents 15-2.  Coming into today's game, the Golden Eagles had not scored in three consecutive contests.

The Golden Eagles next contest will be non-conference match against William Paterson University in New Jersey this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
