Union, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Kean University on the road on Tuesday evening and fell to 0-2 in the early going of the 2016 campaign. The Cougars improved to 2-1 with the victory.

Kean struck in the ninth minute when a Sev Kherloplan free kick found its way through the SJC wall and into the back of the net, but the Golden Eagles did well to thwart any other danger in the first half and entered the break down one goal (1-0).

The Cougars doubled their lead in the 49th minute when Kherloplan outpaced the Golden Eagles' defense to record his second mark of the evening. Kean's Robert Barrera extended the hosts' lead in the 55th minute, and Jelani Williams made it a four-goal deficit just 33 second later.

Barrera potted the match's final mark in the 66th minute when he finished off a left-sided pass in front of goal.

SJC's Justin Heredia was credited with three of the Golden Eagles' six shots in the match, with Michael Flynn collecting a pair as well. Keeper Avery Gomez made eight saves and played the full 90 minutes.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, September 10 when they kick off the St. Joseph's College Tournament against Plattsburgh St. at 12:00 PM. Among the other participants of the two-day invitational are St. Joseph's (Brkln) and New Jersey City. Full tournament schedule and live stats links available here.
