Purchase, NY| Senior Robert Gomez tallied the lone mark in the 35th minute as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over SUNY Purchase on the road on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 2-5 on the season and 2-1 in Skyline Conference action, meanwhile the Panthers slide to 0-7-1 on the year and 0-2-1 in conference play.

SJC came out flying in the first half and generated 9 shots in the opening 30 minutes. After winning a corner in the 35th minute, senior Brian O'Sullivan served up a cross which found Gomez in the box, who tallied his first goal of the season to put the guests ahead 1-0.

At the half, the Golden Eagles held a massive 18-3 advantage in shots and would continue their dominance in the second half outshooting the Panthers 14-4. SJC would force Purchase keeper Thomas Ogrodnik into making 12 saves on the afternoon, while Golden Eagles keeper Avery Gomez recorded six.

Following an on-field altercation in the 84th minute, which resulted in a total of five red cards being handed out, the game was called with SJC earning the 1-0 victory.

Of the Golden Eagles' 32 shots on the afternoon, Michael Flynn generated five and O'Sullivan, Shayne Johnson and Rayneri Ruiz were credited with four each. SJC would also generate eight corners—seven of which came in the first half—to Purchase's one.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Monday, September 26 when they travel to face Rutgers-Newark for a 5:30 PM non-conference contest. Follow along with live stats here.
