Men’s Soccer Blanked in Non-Conf. Tilt vs. Rutgers-Newark

Newark, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team suffered a 8-0 defeat to Rutgers-Newark in a non-conference contest on the road on Monday evening. With the loss, the Golden Eagles slip to 2-6 (2-1 Skyline) as the Scarlet Raiders improve to 9-2 (1-1 NJAC).

Rutgers poured it on early, striking twice in the first three minutes of the game with tallies coming off the foot of Sebastian Gostynski. Four more first-half goals capped off a six-goal opening frame for the hosts, who took a 6-0 lead into the break.

After being outshot 10-3 in the first half, the Golden Eagles did well to get the ball to the net in the second half, outshooting the Scarlet Raiders 9-8. Despite the uptick in offensive pressure, SJC conceded two second-half goals and dropped the contest by a 8-0 scoreline.

Of SJC's 12 total shots, freshman Rayneri Ruiz recorded four. Senior Brian O'Sullivan generated three of his own and sophomore Kyle Conway was credited with two.

SJC keeper Avery Gomez made three stops on the evening.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, September 28 when they host the College of Mount St. Vincent in a Skyline Conference showdown at 7:00 PM. For the first time in program history, the game will be streamed live here.
