Teaneck, NJ| Junior Shayne Johnson tallied the only goal as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team earned its first victory of the season with a 1-0 result against Yeshiva University Votee Park on Sunday evening.

With the win the Golden Eagles move to 1-5 on the season and open their Skyline campaign with a 1-0 conference mark. The Maccabees slip to 3-3 on the year and 0-3 in Skyline action.

Despite outshooting the hosts 11-6 in the first half, SJC failed to convert and entered halftime deadlocked in a scoreless tie.

But the breakthrough would come 17 minutes after the restart when freshman Alex Tarach played a cross into the box where a waiting Johnson would head home his first goal of the season.

The winger's goal would prove to be the only tally of the match and the game-winner.

Freshman Steven Deng (1-2) made his third start of the season and was credited with three saves in his first-career victory. Yeshiva's Max Goldstein made 10 saves.

In the end, SJC severely outshot the Maccabees by a 29-11 margin and won 11 corners compared to Yeshiva's one.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, September 19 when they welcome non-conference rival Marywood University to Danzi Stadium for a 7:00 pm kickoff. Live video and stats for the match will be available here.
