Men’s Soccer Blanks Stockton on Wednesday

Patchogue, NY| Sophomore keeper Tyler Flaherty made nine saves and kept a clean sheet as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team defeated Stockton University, 1-0, at Danzi Stadium on Wednesday evening.

With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 8-6-1 on the year as the Ospreys slide to 7-7-3.

An evenly-matched first half yielded a second half dominated by Stockton, but it was SJC, against the run of play, that broke the ice in the 72nd minute.

Stockton keeper Dino Gromitsaris attempted to make a play in his own box but turned the ball over to a charging Rayneri Ruiz, who stripped Gromitsaris of the ball and scored into the empty net. For Ruiz, it's his team-leading 12th goal of the season and ties him for first in the conference in total goals.

Seven of Flaherty's nine saves came in the second half, when the keeper was forced to make a handful of spectacular saves. The Manorville, NY native has recorded three shutouts this season.

Stockton held advantages in both total shots (22-8) and corner kicks (7-2).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, October 20 when they visit Farmingdale State for a Skyline Conference contest at 12:00 pm.
