Ruiz’s Hat-Trick Powers Men’s Soccer in Win Over Old Westbury

Patchogue, NY| Senior Rayneri Ruiz scored three times and added an assist in the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team's 4-2 Skyline Conference victory over SUNY Old Westbury at Danzi Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 2-5-0 overall and 2-1-0 in Skyline play as the Panthers drop to 3-4-1 (1-1-0 Skyline).

Ruiz scored twice in the first half and assisted on senior Damian Duda's 28th-minute tally.

At the half, SJC led 3-1 but Old Westbury cut the deficit to one goal (3-2) in the 68th minute. Ruiz rounded out the afternoon's scoring with his third marker one minute later. 

Junior keeper Tyler Flaherty was credited with five saves on seven shots. Duda picked up a pair of assists in addition to his first-half goal.

Overall, Old Westbury outshot SJC 14-10 and generated five corner kicks to the hosts' two.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, September 28 when they visit the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy for a 12:00 pm Skyline Conference contest.
