Men’s Soccer Downed by SJC-Brooklyn on Tuesday

Brooklyn, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team dropped a 4-2 Skyline Conference decision to St. Joseph's College (Brkln) at Aviator Sports on Tuesday evening.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 2-7-0 on the year and (2-3-0) in Skyline play as the Bears improve to 3-7-1 (1-2-0 Skyline).

Senior Rayneri Ruiz tallied both of SJC's goals, both in the second half, and moves into first place in the conference with eight goals this season. The forward has two assists to go with his eight tallies and has factored into 10 of St. Joseph's 13 goals this season.

Sophomore Aydin Olgun made two saves on six shots and took the loss for the Golden Eagles. Senior Damian Duda was credited with an assist on Ruiz's first goal.

The Bears led 1-0 at the half but the match was turned on its head in the 42nd minute when Kyle Plate and Joao Gavilanes were both shown red, ensuring both teams were reduced to 10 men.

Mohamed Ndiaye doubled Brooklyn's lead in the 49th minute when he tallied his first of three goals. Ruiz brought the contest back to within one in the 74th minute (2-1) and would do so again in the 83rd minute (3-2), but Ndiaye's third marker in the 87th minute (4-2) squashed the Golden Eagles' comeback hopes.

Despite outshooting the hosts 9-5 in the second half, SJC was edged 13-12 overall in the contest.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, October 5 when they host Farmingdale State for a Skyline Conference contest at Danzi Stadium at 12:00 pm.
