The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's soccer team was defeated, 4-1, by Drew University in a non-conference contest at Danzi Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Top performers
- Senior Anthony Guzzone was SJNY's lone goal scorer
- Sophomore keeper Josh Lehr played all 90 minutes and made seven saves on 11 shots on goal
- Drew's Christian Tyson scored two goals including the game winner
How it happened
- The Rangers opened the scoring in the third minute when Jared Brown broke up a play in the SJNY box and beat Lehr high
- Tyson doubled Drew's lead in the 15th minute. Brown registered an assist on the goal
- Guzzone's tally in the 44th minute--which came via a scramble in the Drew box--ensured the hosts entered the break down only one goal (2-1)
- Tyson reestablished Drew's two-goal lead (3-1) in the 53rd minute, and Tino Puentes capped off the evening's scoring (4-1) in the 72nd minute
Notes
- Guzzone's goal was his first as a Golden Eagle after transfering from Purchase ahead the 2021 season
- Three Golden Eagles registered multiple shots in the contest: Connor Owenburg, Chris Ventimilla, and Guzzone
- Drew outshot SJNY 21-9 but the hosts maintained a 5-4 edge in corner kicks
