Tennis in Third Place after Big Sage & Yeshiva Wins

Patchogue, N. Y. - The men's tennis team picked up two victories this past week against Skyline Conference teams Sage and Yeshiva.  The two-game win streak bettered their overall record to 5-4 and 2-2 in the conference.

The Golden Eagles currently sit in third place in the Skyline with two more road matches to play this week against Purchase and NYU-Polytechnic.  Poly is currently behind the Eagles in fourth place, while Purchase is in fifth.  The top four teams earn a place in the postseason Skyline Conference tournament.

Team captain Matt Reed continued his winning streak at second singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win at second singles and an 8-1 doubles victory over Yeshiva. Reed, a junior, has not lost a conference match at second singles this season.

Freshman Stephen Fox picked up Skyline Co-Rookie of the Week honors this week as he went 2-0 in singles and doubles in the two matches. Fox had victories at sixth singles against Yeshiva (7-5, 7-5) and 5th singles versus Sage (6-1, 6-3).  His singles conference record now stands at 2-2.  He also had doubles wins of 8-0 over Sage and 8-4 vs. Yeshiva at third doubles with teammate Brian Hicks, a junior.

Also winning their singles match vs. Yeshiva was freshman Chris Corrao.  He paired with freshman Tom O'Keefe to beat the Maccabees at second doubles.  Team captain Adam Friel, SJC's number one player and a junior, teamed with Reed, for the other doubles victory.
