Men’s Tennis Drops Opener to Purchase

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's tennis team was defeated 9-0 by SUNY Purchase in its 2016 season opener on Sunday afternoon at the SJC Outdoor Field Complex. With the loss the Golden Eagles open the season with a 0-1 (0-1 Skyline) record as the Panthers improve to 4-2 (2-0 Skyline).

Kelley McGrath and Victoria Panicola suffered the first defeat of the afternoon in the third doubles, dropping a 10-game match by the score of 8-2 to Finbar Stuart and Brian Doherty.

Brian Rasmussen and Chris Corrao were defeated 8-1 in the first doubles and Matt Dioguardo and Brian Merle fared best, falling 8-6 to Danny De La Cruz and Isaac Lee in the third doubles.

Carrying a 3-0 lead into the singles competitions, Purchase's first and second singles earned the victory for the guests, defeating Rasmussen and Corrao in succession.

Dioguardo, Merle, Matt Gilley and McGrath were defeated in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth singles fixtures, respectively.
