Men’s Tennis Downed by CSI in Season Opener

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's tennis team was handed a 9-0 defeat at the hands of the College of Staten Island in its season-opening match played at the SJC Outdoor Field Complex on Thursday evening.

With the loss the Golden Eagles open their campaign with a 0-1 mark as the Dolphins improve to 1-2 on the year.

Staten Island swept the double matches with an 8-4 win at first doubles, an 8-3 win at second doubles and an 8-1 win at third.

SJC's Cody Puglisi took the first loss for SJC in the singles matches with a 6-3, 6-1 loss at sixth singles, and Pater Rasmussen's 6-2, 6-1 loss at second singles clinched the win for the Dolphins.

Kevin Lankowicz (1st singles) and Avery Gomez (5th singles) fared best, forcing their matches to tie breakers which both ended with 10-2 scorelines.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, March 25 when they host Mount St. Mary College in a Skyline Conference match-up at 12:00 pm.
