Track & Field Breaks Plethora of SJC Records at NJAC Championships

New York, N.Y.- The St. Joseph's College men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships on Friday to close out a record breaking regular season. The men scored 22 points finishing in ninth place and the women scored 22 points finishing in sixth place.

MEN

Freshman Ian Sullivan (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) took second overall in the 60HH crossing the finish line at 8.73 breaking his previous school record.

Senior Michael Lombardi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) took eighth overall in the 5000m with school record time of 15:51.09.

Junior Brian Wersan (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) took fourth in the 800m crossing the finish line a school record time of 1:58.59.

Senior Jonathan Afanador (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford took eighth overall in the mile with a time of 4:33.73.

Lombardi, Wersan and Afanador joined sophomore Kevin Sanders (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) breaking the school record in the 3200-meter relay in 8:22.00 which was good for fourth place.

Freshman Mario Mayen (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) took ninth in the 400m with a school record time of 50.75.

Freshman James D'Onofrio (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) took seventh in the 60m with a school record time of 7.24.

WOMEN

Sophomore AnnMarie Zigrosser (Bayport, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) took third overall in the 5000m breaking her school record in 19:13.19.

Freshman Brittany Guttieri (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) finished eighth overall in the mile breaking her previous school record with a time of 5:27.09.

Senior Christine Cristobal (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hallow Hills West) took second in the 800m with an ECAC qualifying time of 2:19.16.

Zigrosser, Guttieri and Cristobal later joined senior Maureen Quinn (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) taking fourth in the 3200-meter relay event in a school record time of 10:08.59.

Junior Caitlyn Ryan (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) took eighth in the 3000m breaking the school record in 10:54.75.

Junior Jessica Josema took eighth in the 400m with a school record time of 1:01.52.

Samantha Baculy (Farmingville, N.Y./Connetquot) closed out her first collegiate indoor season with a school record time of 11.40 in the 60HH.

Next week, St. Joseph's College will return to the Armory for the ECAC Championships on Friday and Saturday, March 1 and 2.
