Patchogue, NY| In front of a packed Danzi Center gym the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team stormed past Medgar Evers, 3-0, in the program's first-ever competitive match on Tuesday evening.

Leading the way for the Golden Eagles was the freshman attack contingent of Will Flohr (9 kills), Kyle Biggers (6 kills) and Paul Curaro (6 kills). Junior setter Tyler Jones collected a game-best 15 assists and fellow junior Michael Barfield led all participants with nine digs.

Biggers recorded the first-ever point and kill in program history to put the Golden Eagles ahead 1-0 and sparked a 10-0 run to open the first set. Later, up 22-7, a 3-0 run--capped off by a Matt Cole service ace--clinched a 25-7 set one victory.

Holding a 13-6 lead in the second, SJC went on to compile a 12-0 run en route to a 25-6 win. Medgar would go up 2-1 in the third set but their lead was short as St. Joseph's grabbed 24 of the next 29 points and earned the 25-7 set and 3-0 match victories after Michael Amberge served up consecutive game-clinching service aces.

SJC boasted a .469 attacking percentage and collected 31 kills in total while limiting the Cougars to just two kills. Additionally, the hosts held sizeable advantages in assists (29-2), digs (22-9) and aces (18-1).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, January 26 when they travel to Queens, NY to face York College in a non-conference tilt at 7:00 PM. Live stats for the match will be available here.
