Men's Volleyball Spoils York's Season Opener in 3-0 Sweep on Thursday Night

Jamaica, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team earned its first road in its inaugural season handing York College a 3-0 loss in a non-conference match inside the York College Gym in Jamaica, NY.

With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Cardinals slide to 0-1.

After dominating the first two sets, and winning them 25-8 and 25-10, SJC was met with a tougher York side in the third set. The Cardinal would keep up with SJC in the early going, Up 22-16, the Golden Eagles finished off the match with a 3-0 run to grab the 25-15 set win to complete the 3-0 sweep.

Matthew Amberge led all players with eight kills in the match and hit for a .538 attacking percentage. Will Flohr contributed to six kills of his own and Matt Cole and David Slager both went for five in a match that saw SJC compile 30 kills to York's 14.

SJC would also hold a steep margin in service aces (16-0), eight of which came off the hand of Flohr.
Tyler Jones had a game-best 19 assists and Michael Barfield, Flohr, and Amberge all combined for four digs.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday February 2 when they head to Brooklyn, NY in a non-conference matchup at 6:00 PM.
