Brooklyn, NY| Behind a strong performance by freshman Paul Curaro the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team swept Brooklyn College in a non-conference match on the road on Thursday evening.
With the win the Golden Eagles--who have not yet dropped a set this season--improve to 3-0 on the year as the Bulldogs slide to 1-3.
Curaro collected a game-high 13 kills and hit at a .647 attacking rate in addition to recording 11 digs. Freshman Kyle Biggers was credited with 10 kills and junior Tyler Jones dished out a game- and season-best 36 assists.
Junior Michael Barfield's 11 digs were also a season-best.
Tight through the early going in the first SJC held a 13-11 lead before using a 12-7 run--capped off by a Curaro kill--to earn the 25-19 set victory.
Brooklyn went up 5-2 in the second but an ace off the hand of Biggers moments later put SJC ahead 8-6. With the score 15-13 the Golden Eagles used a quick 6-2 run to go up 21-15, springboarding them to a 25-19 win.
Maintaining momentum in the third SJC buried the hosts with a 8-0 run midway through the set en route to the 25-12 set and 3-0 match victory.
Overall St. Joseph's boasted a .342 attacking percentage compared to Brooklyn's .127. SJC also collected more digs (38-13) and assists (41-19) on the evening.
