Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Baruch on Thursday

Patchogue, NY| Freshman Matthew Amberge went for a game-best 11 kills as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team swept Baruch College in a non-conference contest inside the Danzi Center on Thursday evening.

With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 11-7 on the year as the Bearcats slide to 5-10.

Amberge hit at 50% on the evening and was bested by only freshman Matt Cole, who hit 72.7% and registered nine kills.

Freshman Will Flohr collected nine kills and was credited with 13 digs, and junior Tyler Jones dished out a game-best 39 assists.

Baruch was led by Steven Lopez and Samuel Rabidoux, who registered six kills apiece.

Up 15-12 in the first set, SJC used a 4-0 run to take a commanding seven-point lead (19-12). The Bearcats grabbed four of the next six points (21-16), but St. Joseph's tallied the final four points of the frame to earn the 25-16 win.

In similar fashion, SJC, up 14-11 in the second, strung together five-straight points to go up 19-11 before claiming the set by a 25-14 scoreline.

Poised for the sweep, St. Joseph's built a 23-15 lead in the third and earned the 25-15 win following consecutive attack errors by Baruch's Nicholas Godino.

SJC registered 42 kills on the evening and hit at 43.1% while limiting Baruch to a 8.4% hitting percentage.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, March 14 when they host CCNY for a 7:00pm non-conference matchup. Live video and stats will be available here.
