Men's Volleyball Clinches 4-Seed In Skyline Championship with 3-0 Wins Over Bears and Gryphons

Patchogue, NY| A balanced attack led the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team to a pair of Skyline Conference victories over St. Joseph's (Brkln) (3-0) and Sarah Lawrence College (3-0) in the teams' season finale at the Danzi Center on Sunday.

The wins send the Golden Eagles into the playoffs with an 18-10 (6-3 Skyline) on the year as SJC-BK falls to 2-23 (0-9 Skyline) and Sarah Lawrence falls to 1-21 (1-8).

SJC-LI 3, SJC-BK 0

Edging SJC-BK 25-10 in the first set, The Golden Eagles began the second set with a 10-2 run, before collecting three straight points to pull ahead of the Bears 14-3. Up 21-12, SJC-LI strung together the match's final four points to earn the 25-12 second-set victory.

Up 11-6 in the third set, the Golden Eagles used another quick run – this time of the 6-0 variety – to go up 17-6. The Bears attempted to slow down the Golden Eagles' run courtesy of an Alec Smalley kill but it wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles took the final dive points to earn the 3-0 sweep with a 25-9 victory.

Will Flohr hit a 68.8 attack percentage and collected a game-high 11 kills in the match. Kyle Biggers added eight kills, and Paul Curaro contributed to nine kills in the game.

SJC-LI 3, SLC 0        
In the final game of the 2017 regular season the Golden Eagles earned a first-set 25-6 victory over the Gryphons. The Golden Eagles found themselves with an early 17-1 lead before a service error by Curaro gave Sarah Lawrence its second point in the match. SJC tallied five straight points to hold a 24-2 lead over the Gryphons before closing out the second set with a 25-3 victory of SLC.

Up 12-1 midway through the final set, Maxwell Savo tried to stop SJC's run with a kill to shorten SLC's deficit by 10 (12-2). A 7-0 run by the Golden Eagles gave them a 15-point advantage (19-4), before earning the 25-5 victory and the 3-0 match victory.

Leading the SJC attack was Flohr with 11 kills on the afternoon, Biggers tallied eight kills in the contest, and Curaro added with five kills and seven digs.

The Golden Eagles will host the fifth-seeded Sage Colleges Gators in the first round of the Skyline Conference Tournament on Tuesday, April 11 at 7PM.  Live stats will be available here.
