Men's Volleyball Sweeps in Home Opener

Patchogue, NY| In its 2018 home opener, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team swept Brooklyn College in a non-conference matchup.

SJC improves to 3-1 on the season with the win as the Bulldogs even out at 1-1.

Sophomore Will Flohr finished with a match-high 11 kills, and sophomores Kyle Biggers and Paul Curaro pitched in with nine kills each. Senior Tyler Jones led the Golden Eagles with 29 assists and five digs. 

Vaughn Titus and Ahmed Moawad led Brooklyn with five kills apiece.  Setter Sayuj Zachariah dished nine assists and libero Snigdho Hasan collected a game-high eight digs.

St. Joseph's jumped to an early lead with 25-14 and 25-16 wins in sets one and two, respectively. The Bulldogs opened the third frame claiming the first three points, but the Golden Eagles responded with four unanswered and went up 4-3. The sides exchanged points before a kill from Biggers sparked a 4-0 run that put distance between the two sides (9-5). From there out, the Golden Eagles continued to pull away and used a 7-2 run to close out the set with a 25-10 win.

As a team, the Golden Eagles recorded a .439 hitting percentage while holding the Bulldogs to just .059. 

SJC returns to action when they travel to face #1 Springfield College and #15 Vassar College on Saturday, February 3.  Game times are set for 4:00 and 6:00 pm in Springfield, MA.
