Men’s Volleyball Earns 3-0 Sweep of John Jay

Patchogue, NY| After suffering a pair of defeats to nationally-ranked opponents on Saturday, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team got back into the win column with a 3-0 sweep of John Jay College inside the Danzi Center on Sunday afternoon.

The wins sees the Golden Eagles move to 4-3 on the season as the Bloodhounds stumble to 3-2.

Leading an SJC offense that hit .266 on the afternoon was sophomore Kyle Biggers, who fired at .571 accuracy and put down a team-high 10 kills.

Sophomore Paul Curaro contributed seven kills and a game-high eight digs, and fellow classman Will Flohr went for six kills.

Senior Tyler Jones dished out a team-best 18 assists.

St. Joseph's eased to a 25-13 victory in the first set but was met by a hungrier John Jay side in the third. The Bloodhounds stuck with the hosts in the earlier going and even took an 11-10 lead, but three-straight points from the Golden Eagles provided breathing room en route to a 25-20 second-set victory.

Comfortable through much of the third, SJC cruised to a 24-17 lead, setting up sophomore David Slager to put down the match's winning kill.

Overall, the St. Joseph's defense was strong and held the Bloodhounds, who recorded 28 kills, to a .141 hitting percentage. SJC also recorded 11 blocks to John Jay's five.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, February 10 when they face Messiah University and SUNY Poly at 1:00 and 5:00 pm, respectively, on the campus of Arcadia University (Glenside, PA).
