Men’s Volleyball Sweeps CCNY on Saturday

Patchogue, NY| Sophomore Kyle Biggers hit .571 and put down a game-high nine kills in the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team's 3-0 sweep of the City College of New York (CCNY) inside the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon.

The non-conference victory sees the Golden Eagles improve to 9-6 on the year as the Beavers slip to 8-4.

Biggers powered an SJC offense that hit .333 on the afternoon and recorded 33 kills. Sophomores Paul Curaro and Matt Cole contributed six and five kills, respectively, and senior Tyler Jones dished out 20 assists.

Sophomore Will Flohr collected 10 digs and tied CCNY's Christopher Lee for the match's highest total.

SJC breezed through the first and second sets fairly easily, securing 25-16 and 25-17 wins, respectively, but was met early in the third by a much tougher CCNY side.

The Beavers claimed the early lead, 3-1, and shortly after tied the set at five following a quick 4-1 run by the hosts. St. Joseph's began to space themselves from CCNY, taking a 9-7 lead, and from there blew the frame wide open and cruised to a 25-16 victory to secure the sweep.

Totaling 34 digs in the match, SJC held CCNY to a .023 hitting percentage in the match while only recording eight attacking errors themselves.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, March 4 when they host SUNY Purchase and Yeshiva University inside the Danzi Center for a Skyline Conference tri-match beginning at 12:00 pm.
