Men’s Volleyball Earns Sweep of Baruch on Thursday

New York, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team improved to 12-6 on the year on Thursday evening after earning a 3-0 victory over non-conference opponent Baruch College in Manhattan.

SJC was led on offense by sophomores Kyle Biggers (10 kills), Matthew Amberge (10 kills) and Will Flohr (7 kills). Biggers' .467 hitting percentage was a team-high.

Senior Tyler Jones dished out a game-high 33 assists and sophomore Paul Curaro anchored the defense with 10 digs.

Baruch's Steven Lopez put down a game-best 12 kills.

After squeaking out a 25-23 victory in the first set, SJC erased a 22-21 deficit in the second to earn a 25-23 win for the second-straight frame.

Up 22-17 in the third, St. Joseph's appeared poised to complete the sweep and claimed three of the match's final six points for a 25-20 victory.

Overall, SJC hit .198 in the match but was outpaced by the Bearcats, who posted a .208 hitting percentage. St. Joseph's  did, however, hold the edge in digs, scooping up 38 to Baruch's 33.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, March 11 when they return to Manhattan for a Skyline Conference tri-match at Yeshiva Univeristy vs. the Maccabees (12:00 pm) and Sarah Lawrence College (2:00 pm).
