Patchogue, NY| Following its Skyline Conference championship victory on Saturday afternoon, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team drew #4 Kean University in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship on Monday morning.

The sides meet on Friday, April 20 in Poughkeepsie, NY and the winner advances to face site-host Vassar College in the quarterfinals.

Kean, who had won the previous six Skyline Conference titles prior to SJC's victory on Saturday, left the conference over the summer and joined the Continental Volleyball Conference. The Cougars earned an automatic qualification into the NCAA tournament with a 3-1 victory over #5 Marymount University (Va.) in the CVC championship game on Saturday.

SJC and Kean met early this season at the Kean Winter Classic on January 20. Despite a 3-0 defeat, SJC kept pace with the Cougars having lost all three sets by 25-23 scorelines. Sophomore Will Flohr hit .375 in the contest and put down a game-best 12 kills.

In 2017, Kean defeated St. Joseph's 3-1 during regular season play on March 26 and later eliminated the Golden Eagles 3-0 in the conference semis on April 13.

Having posted a 23-8 record this season, SJC enters the tournament as the underdog and faces a 33-2 Kean side that was defeat only by #3 Stevens and #5 Marymount this season.
