Men’s Volleyball Dominates End-of-Season Skyline Awards

Skyline Release

Patchogue, NY| Sophomores Kyle Biggers, Paul Curaro and Will Flohr and senior Tyler Jones all appeared on the Skyline All-Conference First-Team when the conference released its end-of-season awards on Monday morning.

Additionally, Biggers was named conference Player of the Year and head coach Bill Kropp was named Coach of the Year for the second-straight season.

The accolades came on the heels for SJC's 3-0 victory over the College of Mount St. Vincent in the conference championship game on Saturday. Curaro was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

Biggers, last season's Rookie of the Year, earned his Player of the Year selection after leading the conference in hitting percentage (.452). As of Monday morning, the Holbrook, NY native ranked fifth in the nation in the category.

SJC's outsider hitters, Curaro and Flohr, finished first and second, respectively, in the conference in both total kills (265 and 234) and kills-per-set (3.08 and 2.60). Flohr ranked third in digs-per-set (2.21) and Curaro was fourth (2.14).

The Skyline's top setter, Jones, with 9.16 assists-per-set, ranked 23rd in the nation in the category as of Monday morning. With 705 total sets in 2018, Jones brings his two-year career total to 1,607 through 182 sets.

Kropp led a second-year program to a Skyline Conference title in 2018 after suffering a semifinal defeat to eventual champion Kean University in 2017. Kropp's side, which faced seven ranked opponents this season, posted a 23-8 overall record and a perfect 10-0 conference mark.

The Golden Eagles begin their quest for a national title on Friday, April 20 when they face #4 Kean in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship at Vassar College.
