Men's Volleyball Captures Back-to-Back Skyline Conference Titles

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College men's volleyball team captured its second straight Skyline Conference Championship title with a 3-0 win over SUNY Purchase in the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles improve to 25-6 on the season and advance to the NCAA Regional Tournament. The Panthers wrap up the season at 13-16.

SJC grabbed an early match lead with 25-9 wins in sets one and two, but a charged up Panther lineup stayed with the Golden Eagles in set three, 13-13, but a 5-0 SJC streak created some distance for the 25-16 win.

Junior Matt Amberge led the St. Joseph's attack with 14 kills while hitting at a .632 clip. For his efforts throughout the tournament, Amberge was named the Most Outstanding Player.

Junior Paul Curaro finished with nine kills and added seven digs and two service aces. Junior Kyle Biggers and sophomore Jack Solen pitched in with five kills apiece.

Senior setter Tyler Jones dished 29 assists and senior libero Danny McNamara came away with a match-best 14 digs.

Purchase was led by Jeremiah Huntt with seven kills. Setter Andreo Otiniano tossed 11 assists and had a team-high six digs.

The Golden Eagles earn an automatic bid into the 2019 NCAA Division III Regional Tournament that is set to take place April 19-20. The selection show announcing the teams and brackets takes place on Monday, April 15 at 10:00 am.
