Men's Cross Country Sets New SJC Record Time at Stony Brook Course
Stony Brook, N.Y. - The men's and women's cross country teams opened the season at the Stony Brook Invitational on Saturday against four teams from the NCAA's Division I. The women placed fifth with a score of 155 points as Stony Brook won the meet with a score of 19, and the men finished with a 129 as Stony Brook again led all with 19.
On the men's side, Brian Wersan broke his own school course record of 19:53 with a 19:49 (5:24 avg.) time, set last year.
The men's five-person average also breaks SJC's Stony Brook course record of 21:48, set by last year's team.
For the ladies, Lauren Waka's time of 16:55 (6:38 avg.) was the third fastest time in program history at the Stony Brook course.
The women's five-person average was the second fastest all-time at Stony Brook, just slightly behind last years' time of 17:09.
