Women's Cross Country Reigns as Skyline Champs; Zigrosser Wins Individual Title; Men Place Second

MILTON, N.Y. – St. Joseph's College seized its fifth consecutive Skyline Women's Cross Country Championship on Sunday afternoon, while the Mount Saint Mary men earned its first-ever crown as they edged the defending champion Golden Eagles by one point at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome. 

Under chilly conditions in the shadows of the Taconic Mountains, senior AnnMarie Zigrosser cruised to victory in a time of (20:08.38) and teammate Lauren Waka (20:28.06) finished runner-up as St. Joseph's (20 points) took home the women's title.  A four-time first-team All-Conference selection, Zigrosser was joined in the top five by Stephanie Greenberg (20:45.57) of Yeshiva and teammates Samantha Mauriceand Katie Scharrenbroich of St. Joseph's.

Mount Saint Mary finished second in the women's meet with 79 points, followed by Sage (92), Sarah Lawrence (130), Yeshiva (143), Farmingdale State (146), Maritime (197), Mount Saint Vincent (202), Purchase (228) and Old Westbury (259). 

Freshman Ilenis Quinones of Sage finished sixth overall (21:05.71) and was tabbed the Rookie of the Year for her efforts, while Jim Crowley of St. Joseph's earned Coach of the Year honors.  

For the men, Mount Saint Mary's Adam Al-Haraizeh (29:18.21) led five MSMC runners in the top 17 overall as the Knights edged four-time defending champion St. Joseph's, 57-58.  Mount Saint Mary freshman Brian Robinson (29:56.05) placed ninth overall and garnered Rookie of the Year honors, while teammate Chris DelVecchio (30:01.67) finished 11th.  SJC was led by senior Brian Wersan (28:37.54), the 2013 individual champion who finished runner-up for the second time in three seasons. 

Yeshiva placed third overall with 82 points, followed by Maritime (90), Purchase (118), Farmingdale State (162), Mount Saint Vincent (177), Sarah Lawrence (213), Sage (213) and Old Westbury (251).

Maritime freshman Nicholas Sherman captured the individual title on the men's side in a time of 28:03.61, while Fred Callo of Mount Saint Mary garnered Coach of the Yeah distinction.  CMSV sophomore Patrick Goldberg (28:56.99) placed third overall, while junior Juan Reyes-Alvarez (fifth) notched his third consecutive top-five finish at the conference championship.
