Women’s and Men’s Cross Country Claim First and Second at Mt. St. Mary Invite

Milton, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's and men's cross country teams placed first and second, respectively, at the Mount Saint Mary Invitational held at Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, NY on Saturday afternoon.

For the women, it was their first first-place finish of the season, and for the men it was their best performance since placing first at the Friends and Alumni Race on September 1.

The women competed in a field of 19 complete squads. Of the Skyline runners in the race—there were seven other conference teams running—St. Joseph's had the six highest-placing finishers led by senior Samantha Maurice, who placed third overall with a time of 21:02. Next up was senior Brittany Guttieri, who finished sixth with a time of 21:18, and senior Katie Scharrenbroich who took seventh with a time of 21:25.

In behind the trio were junior Kelly Roberts (8th, 21:36), sophomore Erin MacDonell (9th, 21:40) and junior Megan Lavery (10th, 21:41).

The men's race consisted of 17 teams, with Truett-McConnell of Georgia claiming first overall. Three-time Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week Ryan Haun finished a team-best third with a time of 29:17.

Following Haun was senior Michael LoSchiavo, who clocked in at 29:58 and finished 12th. Sophomore Nick Morfesi placed 13th with a time of 30:03, junior Nick Diaz took 25th at 31:23 and junior Tim Elgort clocked in a 31:52, earning a 35th-place finish.

Both the men and women return to action next Sunday, October 11 when they participate in the CCNY Classic held at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx. Check back on sjcgoldeneagles.com for the full race recaps.
