DeCarmine Shutout Earns Split with Farmingdale

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's softball team (8-4, Skyline 3-1) spilt a Sunday afternoon doubleheader with the Rams of Farmingdale St. (6-7, Skyline 3-1).

In the first game, the Farmingdale pitching was too much to solve for the Eagles. The Eagles were able to put seven hits on the board, but couldn't string them together. Farmingdale scored one run in each of the first three innings. Starter Cassie Martinez (Centereach, N.Y. / Middle Village) pitched six innings, allowing two earned runs, gave up six hits, and struck out one. Second baseman Julia DeCarmine (Holtsville, N.Y. / Sachem East), designated hitter Lindsey Corriss (Sayville, N.Y. / St. Anthony's), and left fielder Gina Moscatelli (Massapequa, N.Y. /Massapequa) each had two hits.

The bats of St. Joseph's woke up in the second game to support the strong pitching of DeCarmine. In the top of the first, Corriss led off with a double to left center and later scored on a wild pitch. The Lady Eagles scored three more in the top of the third; one off an RBI-double to right center by Mallory McClafferty (Bellport, N.Y. / St. John the Baptist) and a two-run homer by Julianne Tierney (Bethpage, N.Y. / Bethpage). Then St. Joseph's scored one more in the fourth off a double by Samantha Carcano (Centereach, N.Y. / Newfield). Three more runs in the top of the fifth sealed the 8-0 victory for St. Joseph's.

DeCarmine pitched a five inning shutout, giving up just two hits, struck out one en-route to her fourth win of the season. Tierney went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Caracano went 2-for-2 with one run and RBI. Catcher Casey Thomas (Bellmore, N.Y. / Mepham) added two hits and drove in one run.

Up next for the Lady Eagles is a doubleheader at home on March 27th, at 3:30 p.m. against the Cougars of Kean University (8-6).
