Softball Clips Blue Jays With Skyline Game 1 Comeback Win

Patchogue, N.Y. - The #4 seeded St. Joseph's College (22-17) softball team came from behind to take the opening game of the Skyline Conference Tournament from top seed NYU-Polytechnic (24-10) this afternoon, 5-3.  The format of the tournament is double-elimination so both teams will advance to play on Saturday with the Eagles taking the field at 10:00 a.m. against either #2 Farmingdale State or #3 Sage.

St. Joseph's was trailing 3-0 until the bottom of the fifth, when a Casey Thomas single brought home Julia De Carmine, who had doubled to lead off the inning.

The Golden Eagles put four more across in the sixth with a little help from Poly miscues.  Gina Moscatelli and Samantha Carcano started the inning with back-to-back hits.  Then Nicole Reda loaded the bases with another single after a Julianne Tierney strikeout.  De Carmine then walked to bring home Moscatelli.  Mallory McClafferty reached on an error by Poly's shortstop, and earned an RBI as Reda and Carcano came in.  Megan Leun capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring De Carmine.

SJC senior pictcher Julia De Carmine (10-3) held on for the win as she went the entire seven innings.

St. Joseph's is scheduled to play the 10 a.m. game on Saturday.
