Cassie Martinez Named ECAC Metro Co-Pitcher of the Week for 3/23

Co-Pitchers of the Week

Cassie Martinez  – St. Joseph's College (L.I.)
Senior, Centereach, NY

Martinez tossed three complete game victories and added a save while allowing four earned runs in 19 innings pitched (1.47 earned run average). She fanned 23 and allowed 17 hits in 19 innings pitched while issuing just one walk. She allowed two earned runs and struck out nine on Mar. 22 in the Golden Eagles' 7-4 victory over Sage. Martinez also hurled a one-hit shutout on Mar. 23 in an 11-0 (5) win versus Old Westbury.

Allison Podmajersky – William Paterson University
Freshman, Red Bank, NJ

Podmajersky struck out 16 batters and posting a 0.38 ERA in 18.0 innings pitched for the Pioneers. She allowed just five hits and no earned runs in 11.0 innings pitched, while striking out 13 during a 2-1 defeat to Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Two days later in a 4-1 victory over Elmhurst, she scattered five hits in seven innings while striking out three. Podmajersky currently ranks sixth in the NJAC in earned run average (1.01).

Co-Players of the Week

Emily Sabo – Kean University
Freshman, Second Base, Rahway, NJ

Sabo hit .625 (10-for-16) with an RBI, a double, and four runs scored during a 5-1 week of play for the No. 25 ranked Cougars. She first went a combined 4-for-6 with an RBI, a walk, and one run scored during a 3-0 and 10-0 doubleheader sweep of Centenary. Two days later, she went a combined 4-for-6 with one run scored and a stolen base during a 9-1 and 6-0 doubleheader sweep of Staten Island. She wrapped up the week by going 1-for-1 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base during a 5-2 victory over DeSales. Sabo currently leads the NJAC in both batting average (.574) and on base percentage (.623).

Michelle Surdan – Mount Saint Mary's College
Freshman, First Base/Designated Player, Acton, Mass.

Surdan went 7-for-14 with eight RBI and five runs scored as Mount Saint May opened league play with four wins over Farmingdale State (Mar. 22) and NYU-Poly (Mar. 23)…cracked two doubles and a home run and added a pair of walks on the week…went 2-for-2 with four RBI on Mar. 23 in the Knights' 10-8 win over NYU-Poly…hit safely in all four games and notched three multi-hit performances.
