William Paterson Takes Two from Softball

Patchogue, N. Y. – St. Joseph's (16-13) dropped two in non-conference action to the William Paterson Pioneers (20-9) on Thursday evening, 3-2 and 10-2.

The two squads saved all their scoring for the final inning of game one as both starters breezed through the first six.  A leadoff double and four subsequent singles resulted in three runs for the Pioneers in the top of the seventh.   SJC made it interesting in their final turn at bat, pushing across two runs on a Melanie Boccio triple to centerfield scoring Nicole Pitta, who pinch ran for Mallory McClafferty after a single,  and Megan Leun, also reaching on a base hit.

Sandra Foster (1-2) took the loss for the Golden Eagles as she allowed three earned runs on five hits, two walks and two strikeouts.

In game two, William Paterson jumped all over the scoreboard with a quick five runs in the first on a leadoff homerun, a three 0run triple and an RBI single.  They added two in the third and three in the fourth to pad their cushion.  The Golden Eagles got one back in the fourth as Gabrielle Cinquemani hit a sacrifice fly brining in Julianne Tierney, making it 7-1, at the time.  Gianna Gulli hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 10-2.

Lauren Buturla (5-7) started for St. Joseph's and got the loss as she allowed five earned runs in two innings.  Ashley Blydenburgh followed her by going another two and gave up four earned.  Katelyn DeVinney pitched a scoreless fifth.

SJC will finish out their regular season Skyline schedule with a single game vs. Mt. St. Vincent on Friday and a double with Mt. St Mary on Saturday.  All three games are at the SJC Outdoor Field Complex.
