Patchogue, NY| Mallory McClafferty threw a one-hitter in game one and went 4-5 (2 BB) with 10 RBI's across both games of a Senior Day doubhleheader played against Yeshiva University on Sunday afternoon. With the 10-0 and 25-1 victories the Golden Eagles improve to 17-11 (9-5 Skyline) as the Maccabees fall to 5-20 (2-14 Skyline).
In between games, head coach Lisa Jusino and members of the team honored and highlighted the careers of the program's three seniors: Lindsey Corriss, Megan Leun and McClafferty.
Game 1: SJC 10, YU 0 (5 innings)
After posting four runs in the first inning the Golden Eagles extended their lead to 10 runs in the bottom of the second. After McClafferty scored three runs with a double, Elizabeth Rohme scored the senior, Nicole Baron was hit by a pitch and forced Gabrielle Cinquemani home, and Madeline Sganga sent Jillian McFadzen home with a single through the left side.
McClafferty (6-3) matched a career-high of 12 strikeouts and allowed only one hit in a complete game victory. Yeshiva's Rachel Mirsky took the loss for the guests.
Cinquemani went a perfect 3-for-3 and collected two runs. McClafferty's (1-2) three RBI's were a game-best.
Game 2: SJC 25, YU 1 (5 innings)
Following another four-run first, the Golden Eagles rallied for 13 scores in the bottom of the second to build a 17-0 advantage. Lindsey Corriss opened the scoring with a groundout to short that allowed Nicole Pitta to advance home, and Megan Leun followed with a single up the middle that scored Sganga.
Four batters later, and with the bases loaded, Cinquemani belted a grand slam to left field and increased her conference-leading home run total to eight. Corriss' two-RBI single would highlight the inning's final seven scores.
Leun would wrap the SJC scoring in the bottom of the fourth when she scored both Corriss and Sganga with a two-RBI single through the left side.
Lauren Buturla (6-4) struck out four Yeshiva batters in 2.0 innings of work to claim the victory. Ashley Blydenburgh (2.0 innings, 3 K's) and Baron (1.0 innings, 2 K's) provided relief efforts.
Leun hit 4-for-4 and recorded four RBI's and four runs for the Golden Eagles. Corriss (2-3, 5 RBI's 4 runs), McClafferty (3-3, career-best 7 RBI's) and Cinquemani (2-3, 5 RBI's) helped power an SJC offense that recorded 16 hits in 30 at-bats.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, April 20 when they travel to Hoboken, NJ to face Stevens Institute in a non-conference doubleheader at 4:30 PM. Live stats will be available here.
