Weehawken, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team suffered a pair of losses at the hands of the Stevens Institute of Technology, 5-2 and 9-0, in a non-conference doubleheader played at Weehawken Waterfront Park on Wednesday afternoon. With the losses, the Golden Eagles slide to 17-13 on the year as the Ducks improve to 19-13.

Game 1: Stevens 5, SJC 2

After two scoreless innings, Stevens put up a four-spot in the bottom of the third. Farryl Groder's RBI double to left broke the scoring ice, and Olivia Gemma would send the designated player home two at-bats later with an RBI double of her own. Lauren Shirley's two-run shot would end the inning's scoring.

The Golden Eagles would cut the deficit in half in the top of the fifth when Jillian McFadzen scored Elizabeth Rohme and Sandra Foster with a two-RBI double down the left field line, but in the bottom half of the inning, Amanda DiLeo would reach first on an error, which allowed Emily Sellitti to advance home and put the Ducks up three runs (5-2). SJC had no response in the sixth or the seventh, allowing Stevens to claim the victory.

Mallory McClafferty (6-4) pitched 5.0 innings for the Golden Eagles and struck out two batters in a losing effort. Foster tossed one inning of relief and was the only SJC batter to record multiple hits (2-3) in the loss.

Game 2: Stevens 9, SJC 0 (6 innings)

Again, the Duck would score four runs in the bottom of the third after scoreless first and second innings. RBI doubles from Corinne Loncar and Gemma made way for a Jessica Rees' two-run homer.

A two-run fifth increased the Ducks' lead to six runs (6-0), and it was Gemma's three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth that effectively ended the game with Stevens earning the 9-0 mercy victory.

Lauren Buturla threw all 5.1 innings and allowed 11 hits in her fifth loss of the season (6-5). Stevens' Brianna Sandone fanned three Golden Eagles en route to her fifth win of the year (5-1).

Kristen Arbiter and Foster were the only SJC batters to record hits in the defeat.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, April 23 when the travel to Purchase, NY to face Skyline foe SUNY Purchase. First pitch is slated for 12:00 PM. Live stats available here.
