Purchase, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team picked up a pair of victories, 5-0 and 9-1, at SUNY Purchase on Saturday in a Skyline Conference doubleheader.

The Golden Eagles improve to 17-7 overall on the year and 13-1 in conference play as the Panthers slip to 6-18 (4-12 Skyline).

SJC 5, Purchase 0

Senior Kristen Arbiter (2-for-4) put SJC on the board in the first with an RBI single to left, and after a three-run fourth the guests went up 4-0.

Sophomore Elise Grau (0-for-2) grounded out to second in the seventh inning but scored freshman Aryana Caputo (0-for-0) to cap off game one's scoring (5-0).

Senior Theresa Cardello (9-2) struck out four and limited the Panthers to only two hits in her ninth victory of the season. The hurler has not allowed an earned run in her five previous pitching appearances.

SJC 9, Purchase 1 (6 innings)

A five-run first inning, with scoring kicked off by Arbiter's ( 2-for-4) RBI single, put SJC firmly in control, but Purchase brought one back in the bottom of the second when Antonina Fiore (1-for-2) singled to right and scored Daniella Adelson (1-for-2).

Two runs in the fifth (7-1) extended St. Joseph's lead to six runs and set the Golden Eagles up for a mercy-rule victory in the sixth, when Garu (0-for-2) and sophomore Ashley Accardi (3-for-4) scored on an error by the Purchase pitcher.

Senior Ashley Blydenburgh (8-3) struck out two and allowed one earned run in a complete-game victory for the guests.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, April 29 when they face the College of Mount Saint Vincent for a Skyline Conference doubleheader at SJC Softball Stadium at 1:00 pm.
