Softball Drops Two on Monday

Kissimmee, FL| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests to Rutgers-Newark (1-0) and Ramapo (7-1) in Kissimmee, FL on Monday. The losses send the Golden Eagles to 4-4 overall on the year.

Rutgers-Newark 1, SJC 0

A tight affair from start to finish, both sides mustered just two hits apiece in a contest that was scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning. The winning run came when SJC hurler Alyssa Rivera walked Jaclyn Arute in a bases-loaded situation.

Freshmen Jenna Kreiling (1-for-3) and Victoria Iavarone (1-for-2) were the only two SJC players to record hits in the contest.

Freshman Patricia McGolin tossed 6.0 innings and struck out three batters in a losing effort.

Ramapo 7, SJC 1

A four-run first inning saw the Roadrunners pull ahead early, but the Golden Eagles got one back in the bottom half of the inning when freshman Jenna DeFina (1-for-3) stole second and enabled junior Franzelyn Russo (0-for-2) to score from third.

Ramapo tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the fifth and capped off the scoring in the sixth with a lone run to clinch a 7-1 victory.

Freshman Samantha Yanetti (0-1) took the loss and allowed four earned runs in the first inning. Freshman Catherine Zucker tossed 6.1 innings, struck out five and allowed three earned runs.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, March 19 when they wrap up play at The Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL with contests vs. Marian (12:00 pm) and Tufts (2:15 pm).
