Softball Takes Two losses on Last Day in Florida

Kissimmee, FL| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team took a pair of defeats, 10-0 to Marian and 7-1 to Tufts, on the final day of its participation in The Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL. The losses send the Golden Eagles to 4-6 overall on the year.

Marian 10, SJC 0

Marian's 10 runs were spread out across just two innings with two coming in the top of the second and eight more in the fourth.

SJC mustered just two hits in the contest. Those hits came off the bats of juniors Meagan McClinchey (1-for-2) and Alyssa Rivera (1-for-2).

Rivera (2-1) started in the pitcher's circle for the Golden Eagles and allowed four earned runs in 3.0 innings of work. Freshmen Patricia McGloin (0.1 innings) and Samantha Yannetti (1.2 innings) provided relief efforts.

Tufts 7, SJC 1

Sophomore Lindsay Ness (1-for-3) opened the scoring in the top of the first when she sent junior Franzelyn Russo (1-for-3) home with an RBI single to left, but SJC's 1-0 lead would prove to be short-lived as Tufts went for three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Tufts went on to score three more runs in the bottom of the third and a final tally in the bottom of the fourth (7-1).

Junior Elise Grau (2-for-3) was the only Golden Eagle to record multiple hits in the contest.

Sophomore Katelynn Valente (0-1) tossed three innings and took the loss for SJC. Freshman Catherine Zucker pitched three scoreless innings of relief.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, March 24 when they visit SUNY Old Westbury for a Skyline Conference doubleheader at 12:00 pm.
