Softball Takes Two from SJC-Brooklyn

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team scooped up a pair of victories, 3-0 and 7-5, over St. Joseph's College (Brkln) in a Skyline Conference doubleheader at the SJC Softball Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The wins see the Golden Eagles improve to 10-8 overall on the year and 6-0 in Skyline play. The Bears drop to 10-11 (5-5 Skyline).

Game 1: LI 3, Brooklyn 0

The hosts posted two runs in the first inning when sophomore Lindsay Ness (0-for-3) scored a run off a fielder's choice (1-0) before junior Meagan McClinchey (0-for-2) forced a runner home when she was hit by a pitch (2-0).

Freshman Patricia McGloin (0-for-3) wrapped the scoring in the third when her ground out to first scored Ness (3-0).

Freshman Hurler Catherine Zucker (3-3) allowed two hits and struck out five in a winning effort.

Game 2: LI 7, Brooklyn 5

The Golden Eagles scored four times in the fourth inning before posting a three-spot in the second inning to go up 7-0. Junior Ashley Accardi's two-RBI double to center sent home the sixth and seventh runs.

Brooklyn responded in the top of the third with five runs to cut its deficit to just two, but the game would produce no further runs as the Golden Eagles held on for a 7-5 victory.

Freshman Jenna DeFina (2-for-4), sophomore Kassandra Tibbetts (2-for-3), sophomore Lindsey Ness (2-for-3) and junior Franzelyn Russo (2-for-3) all had multiple-hit games.

Sophomore Katelyn Valente got the start and allowed four earned runs in 2.0 innings of action. Junior Alyssa Rivera (4-2) provided 5.0 innings of relief work and was credited with the win.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, April 7 when they host Mount St. Mary College for a Skyline Conference doubleheader at 1:00 pm.
