Track & Field Opens Indoor Season at Bill Ward Invitational

South Huntington, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) track & field team kicked off its 2017-18 indoor season at St. John's University's annual Bill Ward Invitational at St. Anthony's High School on Thursday evening.

Faring best on the women's side was junior Jennifer Holownia, who took sixth place in her first event of the meet—the 400 meter run (1:02.57).

Holownia would later finish fifth in the long jump event with a final distance of 4.85 meters.

Senior Erin MacDonell, the reigning ECAC Cross Country individual champion, placed sixth in the one mile run, finishing the event with a time of 5:36.47—22 seconds off the winner.

Freshman Marlee Lopez (2:40.46), senior Ariana Nunez (2:41.49), sophomore Jennifer O'Connor (2:58.00) and senior Stacey Sinkoff (2:40.00) placed seventh through 10th in the 800 meter run.

For the men, Thomas Newham finished in fifth in the 800 meter run after posting a time of 2:09.35. Junior Daniel Antonawich finished less than seven-tenths of a second off the winner in the 60 meter hurdles and finished in fourth place (9.43).

Senior Brandon Linbrunner finished seventh in the 200 meter dash (23.62) and senior Alex Becker took sixth in the shot put (10.35 meters).

The Golden Eagles return to action after the holidays at the Wagner College Invitational at Ocean Breeze Track & Field Complex in Staten Island, NY on Friday, January 5.
